Losing someone you love is a part of life. When a diagnosis has been given where you know time is limited, a wonderful way to preserve memories for this generation–and those to come–is through family portraits.

We recently did a portrait session with Mark and his daughters. Even before we looked at the images back in the studio, my thoughts were, “This. This is what family portraits are all about.” Sure, we came away with some beautiful images, but they just couldn’t hide the fun they were having and the memories they were creating.

Eltekon Portraiture had a wonderful couple of days recently by leading a special fundraiser. We set up a full studio in the fellowship hall of a small church and created family portraits for a good cause that can help your church.

Most people feel more comfortable in the presence of a friend or family member. This can be especially so with those our parents’ age or older. We love to include their spouse if that’s possible, their friend, child, or even pet. It’s quite remarkable how these can comfort and relax a person, even when that isn’t the intent originally planned.

Don’t we all love the photographs that record our loved ones growing up? Some are simple snapshots captured along the way and some are formal portraits or records of special milestones. They help us remember that we were there and they connect us with one another.

We’ve all seen those portraits that were shot in wild, exotic locations. We’ve seen those shot in beautiful parks or other places closer to home. Are they spectacular? Are they memorable? You bet! But is it necessary for you to travel to such a place? Maybe not.

Maybe a good way to spend an afternoon or evening would be to do something for yourselves; do something that’s ‘right now’ and that will last a lifetime. Date Night used to be a big deal and still is for wise couples (including those raising families!). Dedicating a few hours to get ready, have the portrait done, get dinner or a special dessert afterward – that’s a luxury of time for many of us.

Studies show that photographs of family trips, everyday activities and formal or informal portraits of the family that are displayed throughout the house have a tremendous impact of how children picture themselves.

We kind of expected questions about this, and this one comes up a lot, so it’s great to have a chance to explain where the name ‘Eltekon Portraiture’ comes from.

We spend much of our life looking back at where we’ve been. Capture those times with meaningful portraits!
